Learning about Bridges

You may think bridges are boring, but I’m going to prove you wrong!

This week our class learnt an awful lot about bridges. Mostly about Beam Bridges. Beam Bridges are the first bridges ever built and some are very simple. Even a broken down log could be a Beam Bridge!

We learnt about ‘wind load’, the forces of wind and ‘live load’, the weight of traffic, people or things that are alive. We also learnt about ‘dead load’, the weight of the bridge itself.

Personally I think learning about bridges is a bit confusing, but BUILDING bridges is awesome! We had so much fun building and testing our own bridges made by card, paper and sellotape. We even attached Box Girders onto the bridges to make them over 10 times stronger than ordinary bridges! We tested the ordinary bridge first. It could only hold the weight of 1 dictionary. When we tested the Box Girder bridge, it held the weight of 12 dictionaries! It was very exciting and kind of challenging to do, but that’s what makes it so fun!

Autumn Leaves

Last week our class got a pleasant surprise. Mrs Parker took us on an Autumn Walk around the school. We took some pictures in little groups to help us learn adjectives about autumn. We were very proud of the pictures we took. It was a crispy, crunchy, crinkly experience!

My Memory of the Cultural Festival

It was hard to fish out the clothes I wanted for the Cultural Festival. But eventually when I did, I felt proud and awesome like the way many others of us felt as we showed off our different cultural costumes.

Cultural Festival at Sunnybrae

A blur of colours, and the Cultural Festival zoomed past.
In term one, Sunnybrae school had a cultural festival.
All students dressed and represented their own special culture. In a whirl of colours, the school marched round and round the hall. It was a very special day.

2009 Blog

This is a new blog for Room 11, 2009. The teacher from last year's Room 11 has moved off to Singapore and I have moved in! After a year out of the classroom it is great to be back with a class. It is also an opportunity to further my e-learning education by starting this blog.
